On April 15, 2020, a spokesperson for Ohio Living Rockynol reported that seven residents of the Akron retirement community have died from COVID-19. In addition, another five residents are being treated in hospitals and twelve staff members have also tested positive. Summit County Public Health Medical Director Dr. Erika Sobolewski indicated that Rockynol was one of the first long-term care facilities impacted locally by COVID-19 in the area. Sobolewski stated that COVID-19 is going to be everywhere and the question is how living facilities respond to the disease.

Our thoughts and prayers are with with patients’ families during this time of sorrow and loss.

Nursing Home Liability

Although the Coronavirus has taken the world by surprise, nursing homes are legally required to prepare for an infection outbreak. Elderly patients can become seriously ill and even die when a facility is unprepared to follow state and federal regulations regarding infection control. These failures to prepare for the contaminant of infectious disease are grounds for a coronavirus lawsuit against the nursing home. If you have become ill or have lost a loved one as a result of a nursing home’s unpreparedness, you should always speak with a Coronavirus attorney in your time of need.
