(Akron, OH) – On April 24, 2020, it was reported that nine nursing homes violated basic health standards which put residents in immediate jeopardy of COVID-19.
Federal health inspectors who investigated the nine homes found that the homes failed to take appropriate actions related to a COVID-19 outbreak.
Problems cited in the inspector’s investigation include: a lack of personal protective equipment, failure to maintain social distancing among residents, inadequate staff and not acting quickly enough when residents exhibited symptoms of the disease.
The inspection records are a glimpse into the kind of mistakes that could be at the root of the widespread outbreaks occurring at nursing homes.
As COVID-19 continues to infect elderly nursing home residents, we would like to send our thoughts and prayers to everyone fighting the virus.
Nursing Home Liability
As the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, more reports, similar to the above, will shed light on how our nursing homes handled the virus. As health inspectors continue to investigate the lack of compliance at nursing homes, it may be scary to read how careless nursing homes were with their elderly residents. The failure to prepare for an outbreak, and the failure to properly act once an outbreak occurs, may amount to nursing home negligence. If your loved one has become infected by COVID-19, and the nursing home they reside at received citations by health inspectors, you should always speak with a COVID-19 attorney in your time of need.
