On Monday, April 20, 2020, families of residents living at the Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ravenna were shocked to see the nursing home on Ohio’s list with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Even more shocking was the eight people who reportedly died from the virus at The Woodlands. The group includes five women, ages 67, 83, 91, 94 and 96; and three men, ages 79, 94 and 90. Families of the deceased and of other residents at The Woodlands are still waiting for the nursing home to address COVID-19 cases in its facility.

Our prayers are with all of these families as they work to heal during this most difficult time.

Nursing Home Liability

COVID-19 is a newly recognized infectious outbreak. However, it is neglect for a nursing home to withhold from residents and their authorized representatives, the fact that COVID-19 has infiltrated a nursing home. Under Ohio law, nursing homes are required to immediately report cases of COVID-19 to the local health department; it should be no different with families. In these trying and difficult times, families deserve to know whether their loved one is sick or at risk of contracting COVID-19. If your loved one has passed away due to Coronavirus while at a nursing home and the nursing home was not transparent about his or her condition or risk, you should always speak with a COVID-19 attorney in your time of need.
