On April 24, 2020, the Ohio Department of Health released current data indicating a dramatic increase in nursing home residents with COVID-19. Every Wednesday, the State releases its new data concerning COVID-19 cases throughout all of Ohio’s nursing homes; the data includes residents and staff members. Presently, there are 1,199 active cases among residents and 477 staff. Changes in the total number are the result of people recovering or passing away. It is not unreasonable for people to question how COVID-19 infiltrated so many nursing homes throughout Ohio.

As Ohio’s death totals increase, we would like to send our prayers to all of the families who lost loved ones during this pandemic.

Nursing Home Liability

Americans are battling COVID-19, a relatively new virus to our country. However, it is important to remember that it is a nursing home’s responsibility to have written policies and procedures in place, prior to an outbreak, to assure a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment for residents. Now, more than ever, a nursing home’s planning, implementation of procedure, and response to infection during the COVID-19 pandemic is essential to saving lives. If your loved one has passed away due to Coronavirus while at a nursing home, and you question their preparation or response to COVID-19, you should always speak with a COVID-19 attorney in your time of need.
