(Columbus, OH) – On June 11, 2020 Dr. Amy Acton stepped down as Health Director. Dr. Acton said with the state reopening, Ohio is entering a new “phase” of learning to resume life with COVID-19. “I think there is a sort of natural shift that is occurring here that makes it sort of a good time so I can refocus,” she said.

Along with the news of Dr. Acton today comes the update of nursing home deaths. As of today, 1,745 Ohio nursing home patients are now dead with COVID-19; 71% of all known Ohio COVID-19 deaths.

Nursing Home Liability

Waiting to enact an infection control procedure until after an outbreak hits, and the government recommends action, is unacceptable. We live in the most advanced healthcare system in the world. Families of nursing home residents should not accept it when a nursing home administrator says “We did all we could do.” Ask what was occurring prior to COVID-19. Ask what protocols were put in place to stop infection in December 2019. The answers to those questions could be shocking. If your loved one has become infected by COVID-19, and the nursing home they reside was unprepared, you should always speak with a COVID-19 attorney in your time of need.
