(Monclova, OH) – On May 6, 2020, it was reported that The Lakes of Monclova nursing home had the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the State of Ohio.  As of May 6, there were 99 cumulative cases, which include both residents and staff; 45% of the residents there have been infected with COVID-19.  In total, COVID-19 has taken 30 people who work or live at the facility. Families of residents say the home’s numbers are unacceptable; they are disturbed to learn that the home was not offering standards above and beyond what the Center for Disease Control recommends.  As COVID-19 continues to affect The Lakes of Monclova, we would like to send our best wishes to everyone fighting the virus.

Nursing Home Liability

Waiting for the government to intervene during a pandemic is a recipe for disaster. A spokesperson from The Lakes of Monclova indicated that since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic they have followed CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19. However, waiting to enact an infection control procedure until after an outbreak hits, and the government recommends action, is unacceptable. We live in the most advanced healthcare system in the world. Families of nursing home residents should not accept it when a nursing home administrator says “We did all we could do.” Ask what was occurring prior to COVID-19. Ask what protocols were put in place to stop infection in December 2019. The answers to those questions could be shocking. If your loved one has become infected by COVID-19, and the nursing home they reside was unprepared, you should always speak with a COVID-19 attorney in your time of need.
